Longhi’s Ala Moana Commemorates 12 Years on Oahu with New Menu Items, Including Signature Creations

One of Hawaii’s most notable Italian restaurants unveils over 20 new dishes

Longhi’s Ala Moana turns twelve this year, and to celebrate, the restaurant recently launched refreshed breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, replete with new dishes.  The Italian eatery—known for its family recipes steeped in tradition—has over 20 new plates, some of which were specials that customers requested to be offered regularly, while others are completely brand new to appeal to a wider dining audience.

The lunch and dinner menus have been enhanced with the addition of the Grilled Maui Romaine Salad ($9) with maple-cured bacon, gorgonzola, and a balsamic reduction; Fresh Grilled Wild Salmon and Asparagus ($34) with a Maui basil goat cheese pesto; Lobster Risotto ($24 for lunch, $30 for dinner); Shrimp Risotto ($24 for lunch, $30 for dinner); as well as a few sides, including the Sicilian Cauliflower ($8) rolled in breadcrumbs, Italian seasonings, and parmesan before being bathed in butter, browned garlic, capers, hot chili peppers, and Italian parsley; Mushroom Risotto ($8); and garlic butter-sautéed Button Mushrooms ($9).

Exclusive to the lunch menu are two new sandwiches—the Grilled Organic Chicken and Avocado Sandwich ($15) with caramelized onions, arugula, cilantro, and local vine-ripened tomatoes, and the Open Faced Prime Bleu Cheese Burger ($17.50) with seven ounces of ground prime beef over garlic toast and topped with gorgonzola, sautéed mushrooms, and a demi-glace.

The upgraded dinner menu features the welcomed additions of two appetizers—Spicy Penn Cove Mussels ($16) steamed in dry Marsala wine, and Portobello Spinach Cannelloni ($9) baked with four Italian cheeses and topped with a creamy pesto.  Additional dinner entrees include Fresh Hawaiian Fish (market price) prepared Torino style with organic Hawaiian macadamia nut breadcrumbs or steamed, with house lobster stock and fresh shiitake; Petite Filet with Mushroom Risotto ($36) accented by demi-glace; a 3½ pound Crab Stuffed Grilled Lobster (market price) featuring blue lump crab and organic macadamia nut breadcrumbs; Surf-n-Turf ($69) with a 1¼ pound live Maine lobster and a petite Filet Longhi with fresh basil butter; Longhi’s Quintessential Lobster Macaroni and Cheese ($32); Clam Risotto ($27), Home Fried Potatoes ($6), and Gnocchi Florentine ($9) with spinach, local tomatoes, garlic, Maui basil, and Parmigiano Reggiano.

Two additions to the breakfast menu that will be featured throughout the day include a Tiramisu Pancake ($16)—three pancakes layered with an espresso rum mascarpone and drizzled with chocolate sauce—and an Italian Loco Moco ($18 for breakfast and lunch) which will feature a Prime Beef patty on mushroom risotto dressed with a peppercorn demi-glace and topped with a fried egg.  The dinner rendition of that dish will replace the meatball with a five-ounce filet mignon and go for $36.

"This is going to be a year of exciting change for our family," says owner Charlie Longhi.  "We will be welcoming in a new wing of Ala Moana Center, along with residents immediately adjacent to our restaurant.  We are thrilled to present these new dishes to demonstrate our commitment to be a part of the neighborhood’s evolution, and to stick around for at least another twelve years."

Longhi’s Ala Moana is open for breakfast from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Mondays through Fridays, and from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on weekends.  Lunch hours are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends.  Dinner is served from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. every night of the week.  For more information and reservations, call (808) 947-9899 or visit www.longhis.com.

About Longhi’s Ala Moana
Establishing Longhi’s in Lahaina, Maui in 1976, founder Bob Longhi envisioned an Italian restaurant that would seamlessly integrate his cherished family recipes with impeccable service in a charming, open-air veranda.  His Front Street eatery attracted patrons from all over the world, including an esteemed roster of celebrity clientele.  In 2003, his son Charlie Longhi helped to spread the iconic restaurant to Oahu, where Longhi’s Ala Moana continued to serve authentic dishes with exceptional ingredients, supporting local farming and fishing while importing some of Italy’s finest.  Today, sons Charlie and Peter continue to carry on his legacy, cultivating popular breakfast dishes such as Grand Marnier French Toast and Lobster Benedict; embracing signature lunch and dinner plates as the Potato Crusted Crab Cakes, Spaghetti alle Vongole, Lobster Longhi, Ahi Torino, Opakapaka Veronique, Filet Longhi, Lobster Canneloni, and Carmel Knowledge; and crafting new, innovative dishes that express the culinary artistry associated with the Longhi’s name.  Paying proper homage to the cuisine is an impressive selection of wines from around the world, earning the restaurant some of Wine Spectator’s finest awards.  Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  For reservations, call (808) 947-9899.  For more information, visit the website at www.longhis.com, or follow them on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Amia Shapewear Active Band Waist Trainer

Disclosure: The waist trainer below was received free of charge for review purposes.

This is the first time I’ve tried a band waist trainer and it’s pretty amazing.  I had a hard time putting it on at first and thought it would be uncomfortable, but once I got it on, it was great.  The first thing I noticed was that it improved my posture.

The Amia Shapewear Active Band Waist Trainer is designed to be worn while working out and helps to slim inches from your waist while you wear it.  Some benefits of using a waist trainer include maintaining good form to stabilize and strengthen your core target muscles, preventing back strain, and helping to mold your midsection into an hourglass shape.

It is recommended that this particular garment be worn three to four times per week, up to 60 minutes or less each time.  It comes in blue or black and can also be worn like a corset under other clothing.  I also like to wear it around the house while I’m doing my cleaning.  It runs on the small side so you may want to order one size up.
